Stockton Thunder head coach Matt Thomas spoke with the media after the Thunder defeated the Utah Grizzlies, 6-2 at Stockton Arena on Friday to improve to 5-1-0 at home.

RE: On the play of Philippe Cornet, Toni Rajala and Eric Hunter

MATT THOMAS: “They’re a good line together and they’re good players. All three of them in their own right do bring a little bit of something different to the line. The one thing that all three of those guys can do is they can really shoot the puck. Our D do a real good job of getting the puck up to our forwards. They were really effective tonight and that really allowed our forwards to get into their rhythm. It was a good effort by us all the way through the lineup.”

RE: Individually, what each one of the three players bring to the lineup

THOMAS: “What I think Hunter brings on that line is kind of a veteran presence. He’s an older guy – you know he played four years of Canadian university after junior hockey and he played last year in the American Hockey League and he’s a gritty presence on that line. From a competitive standpoint, he gets in there, competes and does a lot of the dirty work.”

“Rajala’s timing is impeccable to understand where to go to get the puck. He’s getting there when it’s getting there and he can finish. Cornet has such good habits offensively. He really knows how to protect the puck and obviously when you give him a bit of time he’s going to find the opening to score. They all compliment each other real well because they’re all very similar in a lot of ways.”

RE: On the return of Cameron Abney and Dan Ringwald at home

THOMAS: “There was a little bit of an Edmonton flavor around that win tonight. Everybody under contract contributed that way. Those guys were good. It’s nice to see a guy like Abney get rewarded for a hard working goal. It was a great play by [Matt] Reber and [Phil] Mangan and to connect on that. Abney just didn’t quit on the play.”

“It was a real nice goal by Ringwald. One thing that everybody’s always on him to do more is to shoot and he shot that one. It was good to get those guys going and contributing.”

“The offense clicked. We got an opportunity to get some consecutive ones there in the second period. Our goaltender played real well and then our D really moved the puck effectively and that allowed us to get going.”
