Two special home games in April return to Stockton Arena to benefit armed forces

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Stockton Thunder (@StocktonThunder), a two-time recipient of the ECHL “Award of Excellence,” announced Military Appreciation Weekend will return on Friday and Saturday Apr. 4-5 at Stockton Arena for two games against the Utah Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Welcome Home Heroes Foundation, an organization designed to support United States veterans and their local families for housing and financial needs. Similar to the inaugural event last season, an array of activities during the two days will salute members of the military.

“After such an overwhelming positive first Military Appreciation Weekend there was no doubt in our minds that this would be a continued event,” said Melissa Piffero, Thunder manager of marketing and business development. “With such huge support from the community, we know we can build on that to make this year’s event an even bigger success with greater impact.”

The Thunder will once again wear special military inspired jerseys with a camouflage design. Select jerseys will be available via a live auction, following the final game of the weekend.

Fans will be able to buy tickets to donate back to the Thunder to distribute to local non-profit agencies that will give them to our local veteran and active military members. In addition, $2 for every ticket sold will benefit the Welcome Home Heroes Foundation.

Before each game of the series, veteran and active military members will once again be saluted in a special set of pre-game ceremonies, including a large United States flag measuring 30 feet long and 60 feet wide and donated for use by the United U.S. Army (Sacramento Battalion) which will be unfurled across the ice of Stockton Arena for the National Anthem.

Additional giveaway, promotion and ticket discount details for Military Appreciation Weekend will be announced soon. Fans are encouraged to check back here for updates.

Entering the season as the defending Western Conference champion, the Thunder led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the eighth consecutive season in 2012-13. Season Tickets for 2013-14 are on sale now. For more information about tickets, merchandise, or other inquiries contact the Stockton Thunder offices at 209-373-1500 or visit www.StocktonThunder.com.
