Deck Makes Move to Germany
Stockton, Calif. – Stockton Thunder defenseman and alternate captain Nathan Deck has agreed to a deal to join the Ravensburg Towerstars, of the German second division (DEL2), Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm announced Friday. The Thunder have suspended Deck and retain his ECHL contract rights.
“I just want to say thanks to all the fans, they’re unreal here,” Deck said. “They come every game, they’re loud and cheer hard, so I hope they keep up the cheering and keep supporting the team. Thanks for all the support, I really appreciate it.”
Deck, 23, was in his third season with the Thunder after signing with the team following his junior career that saw him play four straight seasons for the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL. Deck had 67 points and 19 goals in 128 regular season ECHL games with the Thunder. He had played in all 40 of the Thunder’s games this season, registering 19 points.
The Sedley, Saskatchewan native was coming off his best year as a pro last season when he was selected for the ECHL all-star game after posting 16 points in 19 games before being called up to the AHL by the Oklahoma City Barons. Deck played a total of 33 regular season games with OKC earning an AHL contract for the season. He returned to the Thunder during the ECHL playoffs, appearing in eight games and recording four points as the Thunder captured the Western Conference crown before falling to Reading in the Kelly Cup Final.
The Thunder return to the ice Saturday with their “Hockey With Heart” event. Event proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association’s “Go Red for Women” event, and the team has also partnered with Heart Walk teams in the local area to help raise money. The first 1,000 adults, 18 and older, entering Stockton Arena on Saturday will receive a Hockey With Heart t-shirt as well as a Go Red Passport Card that can be used to win prizes.
