The Tokyo, Japan native was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the 1st round, 15th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Edmonton in 2007 with Robert Nilsson and a 1st round pick in exchange for Ryan Smyth. In 175 AHL games he has 42 points (19G, 23A).
O'Marra was originally assigned to the Stockton Thunder on Oct. 23, 2007 and recorded 11 goals and 20 points (11g-9a) and a +5 rating in 24 regular season ECHL games. He was originally selected to the National Conference roster for the 2008 ECHL All-Star game in Stockton and did not play due to an AHL recall.
Returning for the Kelly Cup Playoffs that year, O'Marra scored nine points (2g-7a) and was +6 in six postseason games.
